Hand sewn book from handmade paper. Blue and mauve paper is made from my clothes.
Mantra.
Books: I designed my own perfect notebook. I found a coptic binding style, dating back to 2nd century Egypt, that will lay flat no matter what page you are on. This means that you can open the book without breaking the binding to write on both sides of the pages or rotate it as a sketchbook. I crafted standard dimensions and number of pages so that it would slip into a bag and still last through a phase of life. The covers and feature pages are all handmade papers, while the fill pages are recycled print paper with good grip. I now have an entire shelf of these books dating back to 2010.
Pulp paintings: I wanted to create paintings with only natural materials and intentionality. I used the pulp painting process on freshly pulled large sheets of paper to create “energetic lines” with a darker colored pulp. The fibers blend together in the drying process to make one field of paper as a canvas. Pouring the “energetic line” onto the composition was a whimsical meditation.

Study.
Above: This is a study on the geometric story of The Flower of Life. From seed to flower. I include a few unique shapes that show 3D shapes or other logic.
Below: After viewing prints on papyrus and seeing the original Flower of Life in Egypt- I silk screened the flower of life onto my handmade paper. The paper was made from my used cotton clothes naturally creating a mauve and complex blue color. I allowed the silkscreen pulls to fade so that some shapes are incomplete. When grouped together the flower of life seems to hover, fade in and out, or is in between spaces. When you gaze softly at the prints, the intersection points on the print seem to glow or create different shapes.
